Movie: The Pink Panther (2006)

One sentence summary: A lowly police inspector, Clouseau, is promoted to the rank of detective to provide a diversion for chief inspector Dreyfus to solve the case of the missing Pink Panther diamond and solving the murder of a beloved soccer coach which worked for the most part as Clouseau clumsily navigated from one scene to another, blindingly joining events that have no obvious connection only to discover by chance the location of the diamond from a photograph and reversing the role of the idiot to Dreyfus as he expertly solves the murder of the soccer coach carried out by the team trainer.

With high def action and sound to pound the soul, is there any better way to kill the intellect and feed the beast? Besides football, there is nothing better than a great action flick to pump you up to go out and break something. How strange it is to realize that no matter how old I get, I still feel the testosterone drip cultivated during my younger years on “the mat” or track. There is no better feeling to know you can suppress another individual by brute skill. Wow, now that’s primal! Man, I miss that at times.

Movie: Smokin’ Aces (2006)

Director: Joe Carnahan

One Sentence Summary: As a rat by the name of Bobby Israel was prepared to turn evidence of the mob to the FBI, every top tier hitmen/women was sent to “bring his heart” back to the mob leader in creative fashion that included colorful racial innuendos and pounding fire fights that systematically remove each hitman till a climatic end when we discover the rat is the son of the mob leader who in turn is a DEEP cover FBI agent sent into the mob way back when and therefore had to both die for staining the the lives of the innocent at the hands of a boyscout agent.

Three words/phrases: Layered, imaginative, 50-cal.

Movie: Ghost Rider (2007)

Director: Mark Steven Johnson

One sentence summary: Lead character, Johnny Blaze mistakenly signs his soul to the devil in hopes to spare his father must now live a cursed life only to later reconnect with a lost love and use this as a sign to not only drop kick the devil’s son back to the underworld but to use the curse for the sake of the innocent.

Three words/phrases: Predictable, colorful, “Dolby TrueHD!”

Movie: Premonition (2007)

Director: Mennon Yapo

One sentence summary: We follow an average middle-class woman during her daily duties disrupted by the terrible news of the death of her husband only to realize that, upon a moment of sleep, she starts days before or after the event, leading to the conclusion that though subtle changes can occur, the final outcome will always be the same and thus she must hold on to matters of the abstract rather than the perceptual need of a physical reality.

Three words/phrases: Paradox, “attention to detail”, somber
