Netflix on Android?

As I start to build the object map of my app that will be built on the Android SDK, I begin to think of what APIs I would like to use. Google’s set is a no brainer but what about other tools? A silly thought crossed my mind on how cool it would be to watch 30 Rock or Heroes on the G1 from Netflix. No sooner did that nugget hit my grey matter, Engadget posted that Netflix will open it’s API to all developers. My mind is flooded with possibilities. NO MORE MS IE for instant watch (I hope anyways). Life is golden.

Lots of love for Steiner Ranch Residences

Steiner Ranch social networking site

Looks like I am not the only one messing around with web social.  A fellow resident in my neighborhood has created a social framework for all residences of Steiner Ranch.  It is called Steiner Social.  One thing about living in Steiner Ranch is that we are extremely social!  From our biannual block parties to workshops, there is always something going on around our home.  This has created an immense pride in our community.  I am not the only one talking about our community, take a look at the dedicated blog for my neighborhood.  It is nice to be part of something that everyone can be proud of.

When officemates declare war in the cubical farm!

I made my fair share of rubberband guns during my youth but as an adult, you need better tech to send those bands across the cubical farm.  You need weapons like these:

Android SDK vs. iPhone SDK

I made up my mind that I would like to create an application on a mobile platform.  The development process will determine what phone Keyla and I will be getting.  I was initially thinking of just getting an iPod Touch and start working from there but I wanted access to tools like GPS which the Touch does not support.  Since I do not have a modern Mac yet, I will start this week creating a basic app for the Android.  I will start a series of posts on my progress from installation to the use of an IDE.  Let’s see who will win from a goober dev like me.  Stay tune!

Heroes and Neflix

So Keyla and I took some time out yesterday and wanted to see what all the hype is about with the NBC series Heroes. You see, we never saw a complete episode.  Sure we caught a couple of minutes here or there but the story was so confusing that we gave up.  After taking care of our Saturday morning errands, Keyla and I took a moment to watch the first episode of Heroes from season one on Netflix.  Ten episodes back to back and we are now officially hooked.  Damn instant watch option from Netflix.  The video quality was shockingly good and the audio was engrossing.  We will most likely wrap up season one today and start season two so that we can be caught up for the season premier of season three tomorrow.  Now the sad thing about tomorrow is that Terminator, the Sarah Connor Chronicles has also been very good.  Terminator and Heroes will be back to back so our Monday will be filled.  It is very funny considering we have no cable or satellite and actually watch very little tv to begin with and yet here we are looking forward to a couple of great shows.  All honesty Keyla and I are sci-fi junkies and miss shows like X-Files, ST-TNG, ST-V, ST-DS9, Babylon 5, and Battle Star Galatica. Heroes season one is so X-Men with the storyline of the professor, people discovering powers and those who wish to suppress them.  We are hooked.  It looks like a marathon run to the premier.

We also need to do the same for The Office and figure out what is all the hype about that.  Damn Netflix, why must your streams look so good on the big screen? It is better than HBO.
