That is good to know. It seems the uvc driver supports your Philips. The support for the webcam built into my TX1320US is a bit lacking, especially for flash applications. But I understand Adobe will change that with Flash Player version 10 (http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/)! Have not tried the beta but maybe now would be a good time!

It all depends on what you would like to do with Visual Studio. I mean are you a core developer that require the full suite? If not, you could install MS Visual Express: http://www.microsoft.com/Express/. If all you need is a helper with code complete, try Eclipse IDE for Ubuntu (if you are serious about dumping windows). Heck you can even use jedit: http://www.jedit.org/, which can be used on either Windows or Linux as long as you have JAVA installed. Let me know if this helps.

Hi,
Last week bought HP TX2025AU. Great hardware specs but came pre-installed with Vista Home Premium.

Since yesterday have been trying to install Visual Studio 2005. Complete frustration. I am seriously thinking to abandon Microsoft OS. I have a genuine XP CD, but am very skeptical to downgrade because of support issues later on.

I would appreciate if some one could suggest options going forward. Is there an equivalent to MS Visual Studio in another OS. I used Unix and Linux long time ago around 1990.

thanks in advance for any suggestions,
prab
