Weekend of fun

With a day full of soccer games and dealing with warm weather, we all headed to one of our neighborhood pools between the games to cool off.  Team Mexico, the team I coach, rallied in the second half yet fell to Team Ireland 4-3.  Team Columbia, Katalina’s team, worked hard pushing the ball up and down the field for their victory.  Rheanna and Team USA fought for a tie against another Team Mexico in the 9/10 age bracket.  We are all ready for the playoffs that will start in two weeks.

Good Times

My Kiddos

What can I say, I am a sappy dad that has way too much fun with my kiddos. It is a bit like Peter Pan as I hope we never grow up. With adversity regardless if it is from work or elsewhere, nothing calms the soul better than a child’s smile. You could be angry at events that just unfolded, then a burst of uncontrollable laughter comes drifting from the back of your car by those oblivious to what just happen, enjoying a moment of innocence that you succumb to as well. Child’s play reminds you of days where the only deadline that mattered was finding a place to hide before the count reached ‘one’. Tension felt in meetings pale in comparison when you step up to home plate for the first time in hopes to get a hit.

We spend every waking day as children in hopes to be taken seriously and could not wait to grow up to only spend the rest of our lives trying to capture the innocence lost. Children gives us the excuse to act childish again and not be judge for such actions. Our children takes care of us as much as we take care of them. Life is good when we laugh, and I thank them for teaching me how to have fun all over again. Good times indeed.

Spring season is starting!

I just got my roster for Team Mexico, the team I will coach. I am sadden that I did not get anyone from my previous team, England, but it will be fun to get these kids geared up for a great season of soccer. It seems that due to the popularity of our fall season, we are packed for the spring. So the round-robin of four teams has been expanded to eight I believe. For more info, take a look at our site. It is going to be a great season. Go Mexico!

Thanks mom

mom and ruben

My mom came in Thursday night to help take care of the kiddos and take me to the doctor for my eye surgery, which by the way was the reason I have not written in this blog today. It was a bit hard to look at a computer screen when all you see is blurry images with one eye patched like a pirate. With Keyla over-burdened at work and I trying to hold down the fort at home and work, we were ever so happy to have my mom in town. She treated us last night to dinner and as you can see little Ruben was happy to have grandma around. Continue reading

Gloomy day brighten by lunch

ruben-friends.jpg

In between work, I had an opportunity to grab a quick lunch with my son at his school. There he is flanked by Alex and Jeffery. With all the stress my body takes on with the daily grind, it was nice to take just 30 minutes to hang out with my boy and his friends. It is also cool to know his entire class, I have the Watchdog program to thank on that. I came to realized that nothing beats how proud my son is of me. He almost exploded when he saw me outside of the cafeteria. That makes all the stress of my professional life tolerable. Now back to requirements… Thanks Ruben for the great break in my day.
